Hello. We are
Astronauts
ASTRONAUTS is an Athens-based creative studio founded by Danae Dasyra and Joe Bradford, whose practice is rooted in the development of limited-edition sculptural objects that straddle the boundary between art and design. Since its inception, the studio has carved a distinctive path within the contemporary design scene through a series of rigorously conceived works and international recognitions.
The studio’s inaugural collection was soft-launched in June 2023 in Athens, introducing a material language that is both intuitive and investigative. Shortly after, ASTRONAUTS was awarded the prestigious Guglielmo Papaleo Research Grant, affirming the depth of their conceptual inquiry. Later that year, designer Sabine Marcelis nominated the duo for the Ralph Saltzman Prize, presented by the Design Museum in London, further cementing their relevance among the next generation of design voices.
In 2024, ASTRONAUTS was invited by Alcova to participate in its curated section dedicated to emerging talents during Salone del Mobile in Milan. This invitation marked a pivotal moment in the studio’s trajectory, situating their work within one of the most prominent platforms for contemporary design. Their presence continued in June with an inclusion in Design Parade, the annual design exhibition hosted at Villa Noailles in Hyères, France.
Closing the year, their site-specific installation HYBRIS ASTERN was presented during Miami Art Week 2024, as part of Alcova Miami. The project—realized in collaboration with fellow Athens-based collective Serapis—offered a compelling synthesis of local narrative and experimental form-making.
Throughout 2025, the studio has continued to present new works in a series of group exhibitions across Athens, Italy, and the United States, each reinforcing their commitment to a design practice grounded in material exploration and cultural context.
Danae Dasyra and Joe Bradford met during their studies at Bath Spa University, where both graduated with First-Class Honours in Three Dimensional Design: Idea, Material, Object. Their formative years were shaped by the mentorship of figures such as Shai Akram and Fabien Cappello. Upon graduation, Joe was nominated for the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize by Max Fraser and exhibited in Future Heritage at Decorex, curated by Corinne Julius. Danae, meanwhile, was invited to return to Bath Spa as a guest tutor, leading a series of lectures exploring contemporary design discourse.
Before founding ASTRONAUTS, both maintained independent practices and contributed to leading design studios.
