Description

In “Mixtus,” the Eye is presented in a conglomeration of metis human faces and gains the symbolism that each of us gives us according to their own experiences and beliefs. Let’s not forget that we are surrounded by symbols and an ocean of symbols lies in us and those with imagination are invited to interpret the course of intuition…

Through these works, the artist give the chance to materialize the special man’s life, crammed in the context of his birth, between two different cultures and everything that converges from them. This special man is a Metis equilibrium between two distinct worlds. “I combine European civilization with exotic and diafan Chinese civilization. I am a young juggler metis, graduate of the National University of Arts in Bucharest.  Since I know myself, I have taken and personally adapted the things that I liked and that fascinated me. I merge and combine my opinions, thoughts and daily routines” said the artist.

“Traveler, look at the multitude of eyes, mouths and ears in the Metis collection and you will understand the sensitive substrate. I let the bronze and ceramics speak for me and express the symbolism of Metis’ friendship that is not, after all, a sensible man,  maybe capricious, maybe internalized by too many personal thoughts but ready to see, to listen and to talk to those who have his ears to listen.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

The eye, the nose and the mouth are a portal to civilizations with a desire for communication, knowledge and tolerance. Having hate and intolerance cannot build anything viable. When solidarity, principles and values are cracked; then the horizons are closed; the eyes are closed, friendships break up and racism dominates.

Zhu’s artworks are meant to take the viewer towards a meditation on the relations between people, a celebration of the dialogue between different cultures and civilizations around the world. His work is attempting to defy new or old mishaps and prejudices, they bear the mark of friendship and tolerance, promote understanding and partnership between people.

Metis, is a symbol, a meditation of relationships between different people without prejudices. The subject being complex and sensitive, my intention is to emphasize the symbolism of the theme and not to give answers. The works highlight the spirituality and civilization of the unspoken word of vision and imagination.
